5) For people who won't use a mouse and keyboard. Or maybe if they're just lazy.

6) Real Estate Pros - Upgrade from walking - Give a touch screen tour of that palatial palace to your buyer instead. $$$$$

RFID Technology Heralds New Era in Hotels, Restaurants, Bars

Answers Question: Who's Responsible for the Drunk?

Oct. 20, 2008

HCDI Trading.com, a leader in the bar POS industry is introducing a new product designed for managing the amount of liquor dispensed to bar patrons.  After reviewing the material, and recognizing the amazing training and cost-saving potential of the technology, Keith McGough tapped back into his days working with M.A.D.D. (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) on behalf of Miller Brewing Company.  The true implication he recognized is that the Bar – Restaurant industry now bears greater responsibility regarding the service of alcohol.

No more will we hear of incidents where bartenders knowingly get customers drunk, taking their money, turning them loose in a drunken stupor and cashing in while a 6,000 pound vehicle takes the lives of innocent motorists, only to claim no accountability or fault.  With the advent of Beverage Tracker, the bar can prove with solid documentation that they served their patrons responsibly…or the same reports could indicate that a heavy handed hotel employee or barkeep was a major contributor to an untold host of alcohol-related deaths.

The beautiful thing is that the cost savings to the restaurant, hotel or bar will pay for the equipment within two to four months because the bartenders now know that there's a record of each drop of liquor he pours, and the days of freely splashing out excess libations to his patrons are over. They are being held accountable.

Beverage Tracker Software

Capton RFID Beverage Tracker monitors liquor inventory automatically.  You can virtually eliminate shrinkage to your alcohol costs completely and provide a new training tool for employees

The system works by tracking the volume of liquor poured through a special free-pour spout on the bottle.  In addition to measuring volume down to the nearest tenth of an ounce, the spout can also be programmed to report the brand being dispensed.  The information is transmitted to a receiver via wireless RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), where a central server collects, compiles and sorts the data for reporting.

The user can see history logs for every pour, complete with timestamps, bartender names, liquor brands and of course, the volume of liquor dispensed on each pour.  Myriad applications have been developed for the software since its launch.  The main function of the Beverage Tracker system is to closely monitor liquor inventory, providing documented logs that can indicate whether a bartender is pouring too little or too much.  Furthermore, the spouts are linked to the bottles so that managers know if their employees are mixing recipes incorrectly or substituting liquors in cocktails.  Because of these functions, the BT system can also act as a training tool, complete with a real-time mode that displays live streaming results.

Regardless of all the different capabilities of such an advanced system, the one that seems to hold the most potential could make its impact in the court room rather than the bar room.  With verifiable, detailed reporting available for every drop of liquor dispensed on a given night, law enforcement and alcohol regulation agencies may have a new tool in their arsenals.  The message will always remain one of responsibility and care for anyone who consumes alcohol.  The beverage tracker simply creates a method of accountability, whether you’re the one partaking of or passing out the refreshments.

When is "old" technology NEW?

When the Price Point Drops so Low that a New Era is Ushered In

Oct. 8, 2008: Last week, we dropped our price down to $69 on a 2.4 GHz computer with 20-40 GB of hard drive space.  While there may be some nay-sayers pointing out the Celeron processor as the inferior component here (as opposed to the P4 chip), we have found the vast majority of users won't even miss it, giving the tremendous value in a 2.4 machine for under 70 bucks.  Furthermore, it is essential to consider that this is a Dell Business class Optiplex machine.  The unprecedented standard in quality assurance, durability and testing schedules to which the Optiplex model is subjected can speak for itself.

This refurbished computer takes a quantum leap in value.  We're offering the same opportunity you'd find in an episode of Star Trek, where the abundance of seemingly infinite technology is readily available to a civilization that appears to have little concern over the cost of that technology. Welcome to the next generation.

Computers & The Next Generation of Kids

Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to witness something amazing.  I watched in awe as three children, ages 2, 4 and 6 years old, swiftly and effortlessly navigated an Apple iPhone. I mean the whole nine yards!  These little tikes, who seemed at first to simply be playing with an expensive toy, were actually accessing applications, navigating through contact lists, playing music and calling people!  Keep in mind that these children aren't typically exposed to the newest mainstream gadgets.  These kids are growing up deep in the piney woods of East Texas, the sons of a hardworking couple on a country Ranch.  They don't even see the big city on any frequent basis.  Yet, as though it were instinct, they touched and tapped like crazy to soak in every little icon, button, beep and blip.  It was truly an enlightening experience, especially when considering the fact that these same children exhibit frustration and difficulty when playing with some of the best educational applications that have been around since the 90's.

"If your kids can touch the computer screen...learning potential is limitless"

I came to a simple conclusion.  If your kids can touch the computer screen, and interact as though it were an iPhone (or any such device with touch technology), the learning potential is limitless.  Without the artificial obstacles of a keyboard and mouse, there are no more gaps in the learning process.  Children can touch, tap and learn through a powerful interactive medium like never before.  Fortunately, touch screen technology isn't new.  It may not exactly be super cheap yet either, but for a few early adopters who tell themselves "My kids are well worth the money for this valuable resource", what an incredible opportunity!!  Our price is still approachable - after all, we all paid the same amount for CRT's not too long ago.

We challenge you to do the following as a simple test for yourself.  Pull up a new browser window (Ctrl+N) and surf over to a popular educational website, or pop in your child's favorite educational CD ROM.  Play around with it for a little while, perhaps 10 minutes or so to get a good feel (if you haven't already) for what your child may experience.  Then ask yourself how much better it could be if your child could use the software (or website) with a touch screen monitor rather than a keyboard/mouse.  If you're like me, you will instantly realize how much easier, simpler and more rewarding the experience could be with the power of touch.

"Capitulation is not an option for HCDI when it comes to...the way technology is introduced in our classrooms and for kids and families in the home"

Education Missed the Starting Gun in Technology Race

Oct. 9, 2008: As technology continues to advance forward in this “Information Age”, it seems that education is continually left in the dust.  Despite the broad swath of support and ambitious advocates across the nation calling for more integration of technology into the educational arena, we find the classroom still occupying the back burner.

The crucial “Ed-Tech” program sustained budget cutbacks in early 2008 for the proposed fiscal year.  Also known as “EETT” or “Enhancing Education Through Technology”, the Ed-Tech program has declined in funding since 2004.  You wouldn’t be the only one questioning why state funding disappeared for this program upon reading a summary of its benefits.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, the program description for EETT indicates that,

“The primary goal of this program is to improve student achievement through the use of technology in elementary and secondary schools. Additional goals include helping all students become technologically literate by the end of the eighth grade and, through the integration of technology with both teacher training and curriculum development, establishing research-based instructional methods that can be widely implemented.”  (from ed.gov)

In an era of particle physics, laser surgeries, space flight and infinite internet resources, the idea that a high school freshman could be technologically illiterate is unacceptable.  Rather than deride the information technology industry for its exponential advancement, leaving obsolete antiques in its wake with every new product, many Ed-Tech supporters are embracing the future it holds.

While lobbyists, lawmakers and other agencies may turn a blind eye with rapidity; there are solutions available for those still intently looking with all eyes on their children’s future.  Online retailer HCDI Trading.com has stepped into the arena with earnest tenacity.  Composing supportive articles and offering valuable resources is just the beginning.  On the page titled “Old Technology, New Frontiers”, HCDI Trading.com IT contractor Keith McGough discusses the obviousness of technology needs in education.

“Capitulation is not an option for HCDI when it comes to offering unprecedented solutions that could reshape the way technology is introduced in our classrooms and for kids and families in the home,” says McGough.  “Handing out touch screen computer bundles for less than $500 including shipping seems to be our own way of starting to reach out.” The idea is to offer high-end tech solutions with approachable price points. HCDI Trading.com is reinforcing the fact that financial concerns no longer have any power over the availability of technology to American students.

Organizations like the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) continue to draw newcomers whilst maintaining a solid and encouraging foothold in support of the cause.  Articles found on the ISTE website (
www.iste.org) describe the woes felt in a time where quantum leaps in technology are nevertheless leaving educators empty-handed. ISTE CEO Don Knezek said, “I simply cannot understand how this decision squares with the Administration’s stated goal of ensuring that our nation’s students can compete globally and effectively in math & science.”  These are sobering words when considering the fate of our next generation on the world stage.

We want to hear from you! If you are an educator or work in the tech industry, please send comments and feedback to us at care@1hcdi.com. Those wishing to inquire about special opportunities to provide technology in the educational arena are also encouraged to contact us at care@1hcdi.com or call toll free: 1-866-453-8324
