Bluetooth User's Guide

Some Bluetooth Background Info

The technology was named after the Danish Viking King, Harald Blåtand, whose name translates into English as “BlueTooth”.  The Bluetooth device is actually a small radio chip that replaces the function of many cables and transmission equipment, instead connecting devices wirelessly.  Cell phones, computers, keyboards, mice and printers are among the hardware that now commonly employ Bluetooth technology to communicate with each other.

Bluetooth requires that a low-cost transceiver chip be included in each device. The transceiver transmits and receives in a previously unused frequency band of 2.45 GHz that is available globally (with some variation of bandwidth in different countries). Each device has a unique 48-bit address.

Connections can be point-to-point or multipoint. The maximum range is 10 meters. Data can be exchanged at a rate of 1 megabit per second (up to 2 Mbps in the second generation of the technology). A frequency hop scheme allows devices to communicate even in areas with a great deal of electromagnetic interference. Built-in encryption and verification is provided.

Bluetooth Setup and Solutions

HCDI Trading has composed this guide as a resource both for our visitors interested in using Bluetooth technology and customers who have purchased our Bluetooth hardware.  If you’re looking for some help with setting up or troubleshooting your Bluetooth keyboard and/or mouse, this guide might just be the solution you need.  Go over the following quick, easy steps whether you’re testing your devices, setting them up or troubleshooting a problem:

Out Of The Box

If you have purchased our Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Bundle, you should first make sure you have all the necessary equipment that was included in your bundle.  The Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Bundle includes the following items:

  • Keyboard
  • Mouse
  • Receiver
  • AA Batteries
  • Palm Rest
  • Setup CD-ROM

After verifying that you have all the necessary components, you’re ready to set up your Bluetooth bundle. Follow these steps for setup / installation.

Installation

First, Install the Setup CD-ROM:

  • Turn on your computer, and then log on.

  • Wait while your computer boots up and logs on, until you see your desktop

  • To enable all features, insert the Setup CD-ROM and follow the  on-screen instructions to install your mouse and keyboard software. (This should take about 5 minutes)

  • Follow the Connection Wizard's on-screen instructions to connect your devices

  • Once you’ve completed the Wizard, your Bluetooth mouse and keyboard should both be connected and functioning properly.  Next, perform some simple tests.

Testing

Test your Mouse:

  • Move your mouse around and check the responsiveness of the cursor on screen.

  • Test the mouse buttons by clicking, double-clicking and right-clicking icons.

  • You can adjust sensitivity and other settings for your mouse in the control panel.

Test your Keyboard:

  • Test by typing in any document or webpage fields.

  • Make sure your number lock and caps lock keys function

  • Check function keys, spacebar, number pad, etc.

  • You can adjust keyboard settings in the control panel.

If you have completed the set-up steps properly and you experience problems while testing the Bluetooth hardware, refer to the following steps for troubleshooting:

Problems with the Keyboard

(If you’re only having trouble with the mouse, skip down to “Problems with the Mouse”)

  1. Verify that there are batteries in the keyboard, and that they are new and properly inserted.

  2. Make sure your Keyboard is turned on.

  3. If your keyboard has fresh batteries and it is turned on, but still won’t work: Remove the Bluetooth receiver from your computer and reinsert it.

  4. Ensure that your Bluetooth receiver is properly inserted with a snug fit.

  5. Check for functionality once more.  If you still have a problem, restart your computer.  Allow it to shut down completely and restart.

  6. Check again for functionality.  If you still have a problem, re-establish the connection manually. Do this by pressing and releasing the Bluetooth buttons on the keyboard and on the receiver. Wait at least 20 seconds for the devices to synchronize and connect.

  7. Check to see if re-establishing the connection has fixed the problem.

  8. If your keyboard works for your login, but you lose your connection after logon, follow the Connection Wizard's on-screen instructions to re-establish a connection.

  9. If none of these steps have resolved your problem, refer to the technical support contact information at the end of this guide.

Problems with the Mouse

  1. Verify that there are batteries in the mouse, and that they are new and properly inserted.
  2. Make sure your mouse is turned on.
  3. If your mouse has fresh batteries and it is turned on, but still won’t work: Remove the Bluetooth receiver from your computer and reinsert it.
  4. Ensure that your Bluetooth receiver is properly inserted with a snug fit.
  5. Check for functionality once more.  Make sure your mouse is placed on an ideal surface, such as a mouse pad.  If you still have a problem, restart your computer.  Allow it to shut down completely and restart.
  6. Check again for functionality. Remember to try smaller, slower movements of the mouse as well as quicker, sweeping motions to ensure your onscreen cursor is responding to the mouse accordingly.  Check all of the mouse buttons as well as response to movement.
  7. If you still have a problem, re-establish the connection manually. Do this by pressing and releasing the Bluetooth buttons on the mouse and on the receiver. Wait at least 20 seconds for the devices to synchronize and connect.
  8. Check to see if re-establishing the connection has fixed the problem.
  9. If your mouse works during or before your login, but you lose your connection after logon, follow the Connection Wizard's on-screen instructions to re-establish a connection.
  10. If none of these steps have resolved your problem, refer to the technical support contact information at the end of this guide.
