Microsoft Revenge of Arcade version 1.0

Description:

Remember when arcade machines gobbled up your quarters as fast as Ms. Pac-Man gobbled up dots in a maze?  Now you can relive those memories with the sights, sounds, and vengefully addictive gameplay of five fantastic arcade classics, and save your quarters for something else.  Microsoft Revenge of Arcade includes five classic arcade games:

Mappy

You control Mappy, a police-mouse whose job is to collect valuables (consumer electronics) from a cat's house.  You are being pursued by a gang of five pink cats.  Doors are your only defense against the cats.  You get from flor to floor by jumping on one of the trampolines.  Points are earned by recovering stolen goods.  Other ways of earning points are bouncing on a trampoline, putting cats in the microwave, striking a cat with a door, striking cats with a bell, retrieving treasures from the Boss cat Goro, or dropping cats through a hole in the floor.

Motos

In Motos, you control a bumper car, and the object is to bump your opponents off the gameboard while they do the same to you.  Once you've managed to bump all your opponents off the board, you move on to the next round.  If you take too long to complete a round, a fireball will strike one of the tiles on the board, causing them to collapse and making it more likely that you or your opponents are killed.  In some rounds, you can get power-ups that give you extra bumping powers and the ability to jump over gaps.  When you jump, you can break a tile to the point where it collapses, making it easier for opponents to fall down the gap that will be left there.

Ms. Pac-Man

In 1982, Midway and Namco created a sequel to the incredibly popular Pac-Man in the form of his girlfriend, Ms. Pac-Man.  This sequel continued on the "eat the dots/avoid the ghosts" gameplay of the original game, but with added new features to keep the title fresh.  Like her boyfriend, Ms. Pac-Man attempts to clear four various and challenging mazes filled with dots and even moving bouncing fruit while avoiding Inky, Blinky, Pinky, and Sue, each with their own personalities and tactics.  Once touch from any of these ghosts means a loss of life for Ms. Pac-Man.  Ms. Pac-Man can turn the tables on her pursuers by eating one of the four Energizers located with the maze.  During this time, the ghosts turn blue, and Ms. Pac-Man can eat them for bonus points (ranging from 200, 400, 800, and 1600, progressively).  The Energizer power only lasts for a limited time, as the ghost's eyes float back to their center box, and regenerate to chase after Ms. Pac-Man again.  Survive a few rounds of gameplay, and the player will be treated to humorous intermissions showing the growing romantic relationship between Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man, leading all the way up to the arrival of "Junior".

Rally-X

You control a small car running around in a maze.  What you have to do is pick up the ten green flags to get more points.  While you try to collect the flags, you are chased by hostile cars that try to crash your car.  You can dodge them by using your smoke screen.  Other factors to take into account are a time limit, fuel gauge, and that some roads are blocked by a rock!  The right bottom corner of the screen shows a radar map that displays your position as a black dot, the location of hostile cars as red dots, and the position of green flags as green dots.  Not shown on the map are the special red flags marked with an "S"; collect them for bonus points.

Xevious

It is discovered that human beings are the true aliens on planet Earth.  The ruthless Xevions are the original inhabitants of Earth, and they want their planet back, but without us.  Our only defense is the prototype Solvalou Fighter Plane.  With this plane, we can fight the deadly Domogram Rovers, the Toroid Patrol Fleets, and the Zoshi Death Squads.  Xevious is a vertically scrolling shooter based on the 1982 coin-operated game of the same name.  It was innovative in that it was the first vertically scrolling shooter to feature dual-level attacks, both ground and air.

Windows XP Users:

The computer programs in this package should work with Windows XP and are compatible with this computer system.  If you encounter any problems getting them to work with Windows XP, try using the compatibility mode.  To do so, employ the following procedure:

Using Windows Explorer, open the folder where you have installed the program.  Locate the "Setup" icon for the program and right click on it.  A menu will appear.  Select "properties" from the bottom of the menu.  A new window will appear that has several tabs along the top of it that are similar to file folder tabs.  Click on the tab that is labeled "Compatibility".  Check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:".  The drop-down selection box will then become active directly beneath the place where you selected the compatibility mode box.  Within the selection box, select "Windows 98/Windows Me".  If necessary, you can also check the display settings for "Run in 256 colors" and "Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution".  Once you have made your selections, click on the "Apply" button at the bottom, then click on the "OK" button.  The program should then be able to run properly.
